I don't FEEL like it. #Adulting

We are emotional creatures. Our emotions can sometimes be overwhelming or all encompassing. The feeling of love can be overwhelming. Think, for example, of the precious moments after giving birth when you hold your child for the first time, that overwhelming and indescribable-there-aren't-sufficient-words to describe or in the instance of a husband and wife making said baby. Anger is a feeling that can be overwhelming as well. Have you experienced a moment of intense anger, rage, where you saw red, felt like screaming (or did), or otherwise "lost it"? Our emotions are mercurial, fickle. Though our feelings are important we should not let them dictate our actions. For example, on a rainy afternoon when you are drowsy after lunch. You might FEEL like napping rather than returning to work after lunch (especially if you had a pasta dish).

“The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I, God , search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.” Jeremiah 17:9

Further, "'The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.'" Jeremiah 17:9-10

Do not trust in your feelings and heart, but above all things God. As it is written, "'For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; '" 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

You can demonstrate your love of God through your obedience to Him and His word. Jesus himself said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments." John 14:15 He didn't say, "If you feel like it.." Nor did he say, "if you obey me, I will love you." No! He already loves you sooo much! He knit you in your mother's womb. He love you so much that he gave His one and only son to die for you. He is the author and creator of love itself and He loves you. How great is His love for us!

We ought to respond to that abundant love and show our faith in Him by walking in obedience whether we feel like it or not. Trust me, once you start walking with Him you will crave more. His love is abundant and surpasses all understanding. Cling to Him! Make Him first in your life. Consult Him on every step and walk with Him through your life. I guarantee you will be grateful you did.

For a time, I didn't have God as the leader of my life but rather I invited Him along. What a mistake I made! I loved the Lord and lived a Christian life but did not make God the leader of my life. I married a man I loved very much, but I am now divorced, having survived psychological abuse and nearly loosing my life. (Actually, I am told my heart stopped beating three times before I was in a coma for a week but that's another story for another blog post.) As I have said similarly in a previous post, "I don't care if you see puppies, kittens, rainbows, and diamonds on a path, if it is not a path made by God, directed by God, stay away!" Let Him be the head, the leader of your life. Let God direct your steps. I pray in the name of Jesus, that anyone reading this, God will direct your steps and give you guidance and reassurance, confidence in your steps so that you are confident in your walk with Him, for Him, in Him. That you will fall in love with God, crave Him, seek Him with ALL your heart and mind. Amen.
